Precautions for travelling on bike late at night.
Saturday, September 13 @ 23:44:55 IST by pulsar (447 reads)
Writing this article after the tragic death of Anuj Singh Chauhan.

Please follow these rules to be safe.
* Avoid riding very late at night on bike. Car / Truck drivers are either over worked or drunk.

* Avoid riding very early in the morning like 3-4 am that's the time the call centre drivers cars are more stressed out and sleepy. Most accidents on Mumbai-Pune express way cause at 4:30 - 5am when the driver just goes to sleep and its 100% fatal.

* Anuj and Mrigank were wearing black T-shirts that too on a black bike. Either have a bright pullover or buy the Flourecent vests with reflectors for Rs. 80 normally worn by workers on highways. It gets nicely tucked in below the Pulsar seat and now available at almost every hardware store.

* Wearing black at night gives really less reaction time to avoid the bike / cycle for a speeding car coming from behind.

* If its unavoidable to ride at these odd hours prefer to ride on the left lane of the road even if the entire road is empty.

* Wearing a helmet with refective stickers both rider and pillion is absolutely must.

May his soul rest in peace and justice be done swiftly.

General: Rocket Fuel for Bikes !!!
Wednesday, July 30 @ 22:14:04 IST by pulsar (125 reads)
I bought a Octane booster bottle for my car. An expensive bottle indeed. But that prompted me to find if there is a cheaper alternative to boost the octane level.

On internet i found a simple but astonishing chemical but it has raised my doubt whether it will work.

Why doesn't Bajaj have a super bike ?
Thursday, July 17 @ 11:28:30 IST by pulsar (516 reads)
People have been PM me asking me the above question. So intead of writing it individually i am posting it to the site.

Bajaj Auto follows a manufacturing line process. They design the bikes and they build it. BUT they donot manufacture any part themselves. (Exception might be the engine block but i doubt that too)

So who does it ?

There are OEM manufacturers who specialize in their field and one of them is Minda who makes bike electronics to give an example.

So Bajaj R&D have to design a parts which their OEM partners can manufacture which would be reliable and durable (or they would need to do a product recall).

Yamaha R15 superbike for kids !!!
Sunday, July 06 @ 01:13:53 IST by pulsar (933 reads)
God know who is now selling the India story with statistics that average Indian is 19 years old with huge disposable income.

Yamaha has got it all wrong because of some statistics report from some useless marketing agency.

R15 an exceptionally built bike. The detailing is simply supurb and worth the 1.14 Lakhs Yamaha is asking for but the big problem is its just 150CC. They should have atleast given a 180 or 220 CC engine

Read my detailed article on why i called it superbike for kids.

Dear Friends,

I started work on GPS Navigation way point almost 3 years back with my Garmin Rhino 110 handheld GPS Navigator with inbuilt 2 way radio.

With the new revolution in the hybrid mobile phone with inbuilt GPS it will bring to everyone’s pocket.

For past 3 years i have been mapping point and will publish it soon on the site after the $199 Iphone is launched in India.

My collection includes

* Some of the best restaurants with really yummy dishes scattered around in Maharashtra where i visited. (Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Mapusa, Margao, Nashik, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Damman, Silvassa, Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway etc)

* Some of the most picturesque places in Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat . You can shoot photos exactly from the spot I shot them.

It will finally be like a huge treasure map game where visitors can state. "I have been to the place and these are the coordinates for you to get there"

* There will be major route waypoints for shortcuts which you can use if you get lost.

So it will be no longer asking for directions, your phone will guide you and it will be all for FREE !!!.

SlipStream to enhance performance.
Wednesday, December 12 @ 18:46:48 IST by pulsar (729 reads)
I travel 3 times a week on the Mumbai - Pune expressway in my Car and sometimes on my Pulsar 180Dtsi and noticed this phenomenon and its just great.

I heard of slipsteam during the Formula 1 race commentary on sundays watching star sports but was introduced to it while playing Test Drive Ultimate on my PS2..

The game gave me a sense of distance required for it without tailgating in another car. So applied it on the road too..

Most of the drivers of Scorpio and Tavera's travel at 115kmph on the Expressway. I get behind them at a distance of about 10 metres and the miracle starts..

The speedo meter shows 110kmph and the Rpm is that of 80kmph. The real fun is when i drive the maruti 800 when these drivers are shocked to see a small tin dubba over take the mighty SUV at 130kmph he he he..

I have achieved 125kmphs on my Pulsar (that what the speedo meter showed me) this way but it did scare me off at such high speed..

For learners the best way to get in slipstream are the new Volvo buses. Just get your bike at a 15 mtr distance and enjoy the ride of 110kmph at just 6500 rpm. .

Its very dangerous for bikes to achieve it so do it only if you have full concentration on the road..

Discounts to MembersI always wanted to build my own buffing kit so can shine my own set of wheels. but problem was no one was sharing information.

Since i just have 2 days before i leave for Pune decided to get all the components as displayed in the image. I contacted a car paint store at jogeshwari in S.V Road he quoted me 1250 for the wheel and 1000 for felt pad which i considered too expensive.

how to get stopped during a police bandobast

Club MeetsDon't get shocked... Its not an article to aid criminals but it for the common man to stay away from being frisked during routine traffic checking by cops.

You may say i have nothing to hide why should the subject worry me. Yes but there are situations like PUC expired, insurance not renewed, papers taken out from bike by relative / friend, forgot wallet so no driving license just to name a few

My first ride of the Monsoon
Sunday, June 24 @ 08:28:04 IST by pulsar (771 reads)
I spend the entire last year making ends meet with huge amount went in for house and office for purchase and renovation.
So took some time out and went on my 1st Monsoon weekend solo ride to Panshet Dam.

Since i now live in Pune its just 10kms from my office and i didn't know about it !!!

Chilly winds and lashing rain there were a huge lot of love birds handing arround because of 1st monsoon saturday and colleges closed early

Nice place with knee deep water to play arround. Living in mumbai i love the sand but here it was sticky mud which i hate.

From there i proceeded to Sinhagad Fort ( BTW i have been living and working on the Sinhagad road for last 1 year and had the urge to see whats the fort like all this time)

The ride from Panshet to Sinhagad Fort 15kms was simply fantastic but very bumps. Lush bright greens every where, Fog and lashing rains.

Narrow single lane winding ghat going straight up. As the altitude increased the winds grew stronger and half way through i was fully drenched in rain and the cold winds made me shiver and hands numb.

Almost in middle of nowhere i saw a small hut selling tea, onion pakoda and zunka bhakar.

Finally reaching the destination the weather there was worse but a lot of cars parked. I was stunned to find 2 Icecream tempo's parked. Yeah someone crazy buggers would be coming to eat it there at 10 degrees celcius.

Just had a light grub to warm up and started back. The journey was important to me and not the destination so skipped visting the fort.

Didn't have my camera or would have got some stunning pictures. But it was not the time either.
If you plan on a monsoon ride postphone it for a week or 2 since the wild plants just have started growing. They will bloom in by mid of July in all the monsoon regions. Then it will be a real fun.

Next week i am planning on a dry run through the Wai - Bhor route and by end of July will be organizing the Pune PUG ride. Since i have secured permission to tent up at Bhor's camping grounds

wishing you a safe and a joyful monsoon

repair of tyre tube
Thursday, June 07 @ 00:11:22 IST by pulsar (1151 reads)
Friends,

It has happened on many occassions that the new tyre tube of the bike gets punctured and subsequently the joint at the valve gets torn just by riding few metres and the tyrewala refuses warranty on that grounds.

They ask to throw away the tube and buy a new one for 120 bucks and for cars its above 350 bucks.

Single puncture really doesn't warrant to throw the good tube away. So found a tip to get the tube working
